Well, we're expecting another snow dump here in the Northeast. They say 12 to 20 inches where I'm located, in far the northern suburbs of NYC. Ever since I moved last October into what amounts to the country (i.e., snow country), we've had nothing but snow and frigid weather (not to mention the chaos of LAST winter). Heck, now I could probably WALK across the water to visit my favorite dance partner, LS. ;D Anyhow, what are other people experiencing, weather-wise? Do those in the sunbelt regions care to gloat?

Mr. Shooter - I have the AC running. ;D It is like a late Spring evening here in FL. Actually, the weather is like a seesaw. Hot one day, cold the next. Everyone is sick because of the teeter totter we are riding on with the weather.

Heck, now I could probably WALK across the water to visit my favorite dance partner, LS. ;D No lie Shooter...the ice breakers have been out- everything's frozen solid!! Last weekend's predicted 'rain' turned out to be 3" of snow which, when the temps took another nosedive, promptly turned into 3" of solid ice. ...and now another foot on top of it. Yep...between last winter, the monsoonal summer and this winter (that started last fall )...I've about had it. I've booked reservations to Siberia- I heard the tundra there's not as frozen...

I don't think y'all wanna hear from me. ;D Still, we got a lot of rain in Phoenix and snow/sleet in the high country over the last week, which was nice for me, but the temperature took a nose-dive into the low 40's and it's expected to be a chilly 62 today. Now stop throwing things at me. ;D ;D

Final measurement (unscientific, mind you) on my back porch: 10.5 inches. Add that to the 5"-6" that was already on the ground from last week's snowjob and you pretty much have no chance of seeing bare ground until, say, mid-April. You know what SAM? I'm not going to throw anything at you. Nope, not me. I just won't leave you a tip the next time you're bartending. ;D

You know what SAM? I'm not going to throw anything at you. Nope, not me. I just won't leave you a tip the next time you're bartending. ;D Well, I'll tell ya, son, in my tree-hugging liberal heart I'd give a lot to move some of that snow over this way. Colorado and Arizona haven't gotten decent snowfall in six years and the whole state's drying up. The Phoenix Valley won't wake up to the very real peril we're in down here and impose water restrictions, either. When Miss Scarlett and I drove up to Vegas a couple weeks ago, we were horrified at how low Lake Mead is (you can see the turbines on Hoover Dam). Las Vegas, on the other hand, HAS imposed serious restrictions on water usage... but only for residents. The hotels, now, they can do what they want (including the Bellagio water shows). Anyway, a solid 15+ inches of snow would be mighty welcome in the Rocky Mountain states, I tell you what. Wildrider told me that the north part of the state used to be under snow until April, but we haven't seen any snow since we moved here. It was a real wakeup call, coming from what's basically the tropics in San Antonio.

SAM, Vegas had water restrictions when I visited there in September. I guess this is a long-term problem, brought on, as you mentioned, by the likes of the Bellagio and its admittedly fascinating water fountains (not to mention all of those gorgeous, astoundingly green golf courses). The water situation was a hot topic among Vegas cabbies. No fewer than 4 of them mentioned it to me during my time there. Anyhow, I'd love to send some snow your way. Only problem is, the shipping insurance is so darn expensive. ;D

You could probably get away with sending it without insurance, but snow gets mighty heavy, I understand. ;D
I don't think the situation was "brought on" by resorts and golf courses (although God knows they don't help) -- it's been brought on by six years of insufficient rainfall and next to no snowfall in the mountains. Apparently the ski resorts in Arizona and a number of 'em in Colorado haven't been able to open for more than a couple of days a season in the last six years -- and without snow, not only does an industry falter, but the water reservoirs and water tables do not get replenished at thaw. They're saying that the fire season is going to start two months early this year because rainfall/snowfall has been so light, if y'all remember the last couple of years' fire seasons in the southwest, you'll know that's one scary threat.
It's dry here, really really dry. You can feel it in your skin. I swear I use more chapstick here in a month than I used to use in a year back in Texas.

He ain't heavy, he's...oh brother, there goes my back again. ;D Seriously, the last storm was powdery snow: easy to move and quite pretty, really. The next system is expected to dump wet snow (and ice and rain), which indeed is heavy and can do a number on a body as out of shape as mine.
