It was 110 here yesterday. Global warming, indeed. Okay, it's not direct through Omaha, but you CAN go that route without much going out of your way. Take Interstate 80 from New York to Julesberg, Colorado, and then take 76 to Denver; that'll take you right through Omaha -- and it actually looks like it'd be just as fast or faster than 70 through Kansas ( for the completest, you then join up on the 70 out of Denver to the 15 and straight down to Vegas and L.A. ). ;D 80 also looks like it avoids most of the toll roads. (I wonder if this is the difference between the "northern way" and the "southern way" that Joey and Phoebe discussed on "Friends" when Joey drove to Vegas...) Did I ever mention I love maps? ;D SAM, I think it's safe to say that Lewis and Clark would have shortened their trip by at least half a year if they had brought you along. 'Course, Interstate 80 looked quite different back in those days. ;D

Roughneck, there's no such thing as being stranded at a bar. ;D Seriously, we made it through the storm without incident. Once again, the reality fell far short of the hype.

Anybody else notice this one was started a year ago- almost to the date?? Survived the snow storm just fine (lots of snow- but fell pretty short of 'blizzard')...Once it started though, it accumulated really fast- started here around noon and by 2pm everything was pretty much shut down. Wish I could say the same of the aftermath...navigating intersections where the snow piles are so high you can't see over or around them's been pretty hairy...And I really wish people who can't drive in the stuff would either learn how to- or just stay the you-know-what off the roads. And now bracing for the next round that's coming later on tonight and tomorrow...

It's now March 11, and the very fact that I'm talking about another snow event here in the NYC area points up just how obnoxious this winter has been. I'm absolutely fed up. I could have gone to Vegas this winter. I passed. I could have gone to Florida a couple of times. I passed. Oh, how I regret those decisions. Am I alone in this rant, or is the piss and vinegar flowing in the hearts and minds of others?

Am I alone in this rant, or is the piss and vinegar flowing in the hearts and minds of others? Nah...that's only been mildly 'annoying'. However if anyone wants to start ranting about the cost of heating oil or gas <again> (...or Congress, the Bush brothers... ) ...then you can deal me in.

Hey Roughneck...you safe & dry?? Didn't realize you guys got it as bad as we did till I saw the paper the next day. The first few pages were about all the flooding & damage here & in Jersey...till I turned the page & saw a picture of a bridge where my folks live- the water was right up level with the bottom of the bridge!! Called to make sure they were ok...water came to within a foot of the top of the dikes by them (they rebuilt them to 41 ft. after the last time they went) and so far they're still holding <knock wood>, but everything around them gave out and everything to the north & south of them are totally underwater (after just finishing getting cleaned up from Ivan!!). So far they've just got water in the basement...but are pretty much cut off from everything. She said everything there went over- every river, stream, creek & lake. She said their papers showed pictures of the Water Gap (the Delaware went over- even all the way down by my brother!!) and she couldn't tell from the picture if it was the restaraunt that's right there or the tourist building sitting there underwater...and I know you're close by- so how'd you make out?? And we're in for another round tomorrow into Friday!!

Yup, I'm good. Didn't bother looking but the crawlspace was probably flooded from water coming down the hill, but I'm on a mountain, so I was safe from flooding. Everything esle was done in though. Several roads are still washed out. The National Recreation Area by me is largely closed, and the night of the rain several people had to stay over at work. Rte 447 was under some 6 ft of water, and my friend's car's engine was flooded. Once again, the first exit on either side of the Delaware was closed. This time though, they said the river shouldn't flood. But yup, I came out ok. I take it your place survived?

Yeesh...sorry- really been toast lately. Glad to hear you were up high & made it though ok. I'm far enough from the water so that wasn't a problem and I'm high enough above the water table so I don't have to worry about flooding from underground...but the rain came down so hard and fast the storm drains couldn't handle it, so the streets looked like the rapids for a while. Mostly wind damage by me- downed tree limbs & stuff that took a few days to clean up- and for once got lucky & didn't lose power. Barrier islands took a bad hit though...roads got washed out and the waves cut through some taking out everything underneath and making permanent inlets that cut off groups of houses that now have no way to get to or from them...and out east it took out most of the dunes- think they said something like 500 ft. of beach (heading inland) was lost. I figure at this rate, if I stick around here a few more years- I'll have oceanfront property.

Ah, yes, the lovely weather... Driving to work this morning, just outside of NYC, I encountered a snow shower. It's April 25, a few days ago it was almost 90 degrees, and, today, lo and behold, I ran headlong into SNOW!!! If nothing else, Mother Nature lets me know I'm utterly helpless. ;D

LS, have you seen Noah's ark floating by your home recently? Here in the NYC area, we've gone from drought to major flooding in a matter of a week! We've received a season's worth of rain (8"-12") in just a few days, and it hasn't let up yet. My God, more evidence that Mother Nature's plan isn't for us mere mortals to understand or handicap.

Same out by me. Just about every road around here has been flooded out, and the rain's been more on than off. Basically Northeast PA is gonna be washed away (good riddance, I'll raft out those worthy). On top of that, running around in it last Saturday now has me sick, and while I don't get sick often, when I get it, I GET IT!
