Hi there! I'm a new member here and so far I really like the site. I'm a guitarist and have played country for years, too many maybe I love country music, but not most of anything that is played on mainstream radio. I'm still into the Bakersfield sound along with other old time country and truckin' music. If it twangs, I usually like it. I'm very pleased with the Austin movement and especially bands like the Derailers, Tommy Alverson, etc. trying to keep it alive.

Hey Styles! Welcome to the Board! Anyone who loves that Bakersfield sound is all right by me! Looking forward to hearing what the Derailers come up with later this year! They haven't disappointed me yet! Listened to Alejandro's advances today. Bonus discs come with the reissues of Gravity and Thirteen Years. 'By The Hand of the Father' is great too from the quick listen I've given it so far.... May 14th I think is the street date for all of them

I am still listening to my good ole cassettes of Yesterday's Country Radio. And some Bluegrass that was recorded from a station in Kentucky about six years ago.

Hi Styles, and welcome to the board!! We've only moved into our new digs a few weeks ago, so we're still tweeking and fine tuning things a bit- so please bear with us...Unfortunately, we couldn't transfer all our threads from our previous board over to here, so we're pretty much starting over. I think I can safely say you've come to the right place- there's a few musicians around, as well as an aspiring songwriter or two... And I'd say everyone here feels pretty much the same way you do...it's gotta have twang in that thang ...and this group is very big on Texas Music and the Bakersfield sound...Or in otherwords- pretty much anything non-HNC. ;D Glad you like things here, jump in and make yourself at home, and hope to see you around often...

Hi Styles and welcome aboard. Most of us have a wide range of likes and an equally wide range of dislikes, so we have some interesting discussions.
Today I listened to a bunch of Texas boys. 8)

I've finally had a chance to listen to SOME of the CDs I picked up on my last trip to the used CD store, and one of the things I picked up was on the word of some of the folks here, so once again, I have to offer an enthusiastic THANK YOU to whoever it was who recommended KEN MELLONS!!! Where has this boy been? WOW, can he sing! And real country, too! No wonder "country" radio dropped him! Also listened to some good ol' Dwight -- can't seem to get through a day without it once he goes on tour. Welcome, styles! I'm a Dwight fan, so the Bakersfield sound is one of my great joys! I'm going to be seeing Merle next weekend!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone . I know I'm going to like it around here. tcb, thanks for the tip. I have not heard about Alejandro yet, so I'll be surfing to try and find a sample. I won't be on too much but I'll be checking in every once in awhile. I look forward to some more discussions. Even though I love old country, I equally love old blues so I'll be popping in there too. Again thanks for the welcome

Buenas tardes, mis amigos! Feliz cinco de mayo! Last night was our big cinco de mayo celebration, so lots and lots and lots of Tejano and Tex-Mex of every kind and stripe is what I listened to... and drank a WHOLE lotta margaritas. (I thought about you, Sis!) Today I'm watching the usual Sunday CMT, the day it's good to listen to. I was disappointed in an Opry re-run, but it was a good re-run, at least. It was even worth watching MWL for the Del McCoury Band. And Ricky Skaggs "Inside Fame" is coming up. Caught him on Best of ACL; man, he's so good there aren't any words to describe how good he is.

Hey SAM!! I caught the Ricky Skaggs - Inside Fame this evening. I thorughly enjoyed that show. I have always liked Ricky Skaggs. There were some sad parts in the show. Those parts put a few tears in my eyes. Boy, I am glad I can still feel and haven't been swept away into this unfeeling, love-love, life is so wonderful, tommyrot that surrounds us in today's world. Today I listened to " The Gospel According To Austin" and some Willie Nelson.

I've been hearing some great oldies on Real Country the last few days; over the weekend they did a "Salute to the Sixties," which was cool -- today I heard "Gone, Gone, Gone," which I think I haven't heard in a million years, and good ol' Johnny Russell's "Redneck, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer." This morning I caught "Act Naturally." That station is just so good I can ALMOST forgive all their HNC (which I think they play to keep hold of certain listeners...).

Mostly had Brad Paisley's Part II in today. Also had Y-107 on today, waiting for it to go down. Funny thing is that they have a decent variety over the past day. No DJays and although there are some non-country songs on, there are plenty of oldies being played. Nice time to do this...AFTER you've gone under!
