Bee Gee Maurice Gibb died in hospital on Sunday, his family said. The 53-year-old had been in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack during an operation to remove an intestinal blockage after he collapsed at his Florida home last week. www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/12/bee.gee/index.html

I know they've been the butt of a few of LS's jokes in the past- but this was very shocking and sad news... It's almost getting to be an epidemic ...Geeze couldn't believe Joe Strummer's death either- and how very sad he died just a few months before the Clash's induction into the Hall.

I never cared much for their sound, except for a few things, but I know they WERE disco. When you thought of 70s music yout thought of them.

I wasn't a great fan of their disco stuff but I have great respect for the group who were able to continually adjust their style to succeed in changing times. I'm saddened by Maurice's death. The boys grew up in Oz before sailing to England and eventual world-wide renown. They had guest spots on early Oz TV as well as a couple of hit records - `Spicks & Specks' was their first No.1. My Favourite BG song is still `Everyday I Have To Cry'. I'm very fortunate to have their early `pre-fame' releases as well as a number of the very early songs they wrote for other artists. The boys were also excellent songwriters, particularly Barry.

I was in the 'right' demographic group at the height of their career -- my brief lure from country led me to disco but I quickly found my way back again. I am proud to admit I still have my Rick Dees "Disco Duck" album along with Saturday Night Fever soundtrack

I loved the Bee Gees, never thought of them as "disco" (even though I own the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack) -- when I think of their music I love, I think of those old 60's harmonies they did so very well. And I was crazy about Maurice. Just another little slice of childhood gone.

This was definitely sad news. He was still a young man. Sounds too like the family have many unanswered questions about this event. I liked their early stuff Massachusetts and To Love Somebody.

The boys' sister, Lesley Evans, lives down here in the Blue Mountains. Lesley was so upset at Maurice's death that it was too distressing for her to go to the funeral. I certainly hope everything was above board and that the family can lay their grief to rest at an early stage. It seems the tragic event brought back memories of younger brother, Andy, and this too added to the grief. The family is in our thoughts and prayers.
