LS, I checked out CMT's Blame the Vain preview...or "listening party," as they call it. "Last Heart in Line" indeed echoes "Back of My Hand." Good call. And probably the best cut on the album. "She'll Remember" works for me, but no thanks to the, ahem, strange opening - looks like we'll just have to disagree on that aspect. ;D You've gotta admit though Shooter- when "She'll Remember" started...it did grab your attention- nothing 'cookie cutter' there. ;D My first thought was 'where the hell is he going with this??' ;D As usual I suppose we will have to agree to disagree on this one ;D ...but 3 tempo changes in one song that'll throw a dancefloor into a total tizzy?? Sorry... gotta love it!! ;D I have to say though, personally my vote for best song goes to Lucky That Way...I'm a sucker for steel and shuffles.

I'll admit that "She'll Remember" took the shine right off of my wingtips. ;D I'll also admit that it ended up being better than I thought it would. Still, what strikes me as very weird about that song is the fact that Dwight sounds very British during that opening sequence...or very Bono, if you will. ;D "Lucky That Way" is a fine waltz. Surprised to hear that you liked it, LS. Always figured you for a two-stepper or swinger. ;D

Well, I gotta chime in here -- it ain't my favorite, by a long shot. Some good tracks, but I expect, I don't know, more from Dwight, I guess. I didn't hear anything as good as "Back of Your Hand." I guess I'll give it another go-round when the disc comes out.

The fire and brimestone thing did occur to me as well, ;D , but I ultimately concluded that he was utilizing an accent - a very British accent. Experimentation at its worst or best - your decide. Let me ask you a question? Would the real WOIM hail from across the Sound? ;D ;D

File under 'better late than never'... Well Shooter- it's been a little over a month and I'm still playing the heck out of it (sorry SAM- but I love this one to death)...Not only do I always crank up Intentional Heartache and She'll Remember (and Watch Out)...but they leave me smiling every time I listen 'em- so it definitely all works fine for me... I assume you're referring to the southern side- I certainly hope...so then I'd have to ask you...What better place?? ;D

Now, I'm not so sure that Dwight's previous albums lacked "variety." You must admit, his previous efforts always sounded different that what mainstream "country" acts were throwing out there. ;D Glad to hear it. 'Course, you really should ask those dogs of yours to run over to the CD player and change that disc every now and then. ;D You say "southern," I say "eastern." Perhaps your compass is broken. At any rate, I got stuck on the LIE not long ago. So your assessment of your "better place" is dubious at best. ;D

Now, I'm not so sure that Dwight's previous albums lacked "variety." You must admit, his previous efforts always sounded different that what mainstream "country" acts were throwing out there. ;D Never said they lacked variety...or remotely approached being 'bad.' The last few just seemed to have lacked...'zip'...'energy'...'playfulness'... 'fun'. I rank this one up there with my 3 favorites...Buenos Noches, If There Was A Way and This Time. Hardy-har. That's why they invented multi-disc players Shooter. ;D It hasn't left rotation yet...but it's in the mix with other new ones I've been equally as taken with...Delbert McClinton's killer 'Cost Of Living,' Jeff Black's gorgeous 'Tin Lily,' Brian Setzer's kick-ass 'Rockabilly Tribute To Sun' and Eddy Arnold's very amazing 'After All These Years' (the man sounds just incredible at age 87!! ) Um...nope- it's not my compass that's broken Shooter...and nothin' wrong with my geography either. Unless of course you've moved back to the Bronx... ...regardless of 'northeast' or 'northwest'- you still reside north of the Sound and I on the south side. And really...I wouldn't go casting any stones at the LIE...it's a positive dream next to say the Belt, the Cross Bronx, the BQE, the FDR...(need I go on?? ;D )...And seriously- are you saying 95's any better?? But thems the breaks in a place where 1/2 the entire state's population (not counting an additional few more million commuters and assorted tourists) lives on a 1300 sq. mile radius stretch of islands with very limited access. Perhaps the next time though- you should do like the natives...break out the old 'doll-in-the-car seat' or 'mannequin-in-the-passenger-seat' trick and just use the HOV lanes... And so again Shooter...where better for a WOIM than in a place where she's surrounded by millions of others from all over the world and she can move about in virtual anonymity?? That's the sheer beauty of it Shooter ;D ...In chameleon-like fashion- at any given time, LS can be whoever she fancies...depending on her mood, company and destination.

LS, I'd never break the law by pulling the old "fake passenger" trick. I mean, I have a unsullied reputation to uphold...and besides, my wingtips would be scuffed in the slammer. ;D Geography is relative, I guess. All I know is, you're too close for comfort...which I why I wear my helmet at all times. ;D At any rate, my compass was run over by those dastardly dogs of yours...or by one of us cutting the proverbial rug. ;D You mentioned Brian Setzer. He's a favorite of my wife and I, although I wasn't aware of a new album. We'll have to check into that. And Eddy Arnold too, since I'm an educator and my wife has no idea who he is. ;D As far as clogged roadways go, I-95, the LIE, the Cross Bronx, any road in the metro area - you lose across the board. Hell, it took me 20 minutes to go 1.5 miles recently on local roads, thanks in part to traffic lights that were down for the count (all that recent lightning contributed, of course). As far as the WOIM thing is concerned, the jig is bound to be up soon. After all, you'll need to pay that legal bill soon...I'll get the address off your check. ;D

Hey, no problem, Sis. My top rotation disc right now is "Heeah!" but I've spun "Blame the Vain" more than a few times. I do like "Intentional Heartache," although I think the chatter at the end goes on a bit too long, and I do actually like the weird British patter at the head of "She'll Remember." My favorite tracks are "Lucky that Way," "Three Good Reasons," and "I Want To Love Again," and I like "Last Heart In Line." But I have to say it doesn't shine for me like "Population Me" and "Tomorrow's Sounds Today" do--I don't get where you think the last few lacked fun or zip! I guess that diff'rent strokes thing, eh? Miss Scarlett told me he's already split with Keith Gattis, the youngster wants to go solo already. Last word was he's touring with Eddie Perez as lead guitarist (which to my mind is probably an improvement).

LS, I'd never break the law by pulling the old "fake passenger" trick. I mean, I have a unsullied reputation to uphold...and besides, my wingtips would be scuffed in the slammer. ;D Shooter...if you got tossed into lockup wearing wingtips- I think it's a pretty safe bet a little more than just the old wingtips would get scuffed. How far would be far enough?? ;D The helmet?? A good idea. I've raised and specially trained a flock of homing pigeons that deliver surprise messages. ;D Gotta support the local talent. Brian's latest isn't his swing fare- he's headed back to rockabilly turf in stellar fashion for this one. If you're not hot on his rockabilly stuff, then you can always hold out for a couple of months- he's putting out a swing Christmas album. Eddy's is wonderful- he's a bit wobbly in a few spots, but what he's lost to age in vocal strength- he more than makes up for with warmth and class, and a set of first rate songs (including a lovely reprise of his own hit, You Don't Know Me). What better way for a legend to mark his 87th birthday than by recording album #100...a truly remarkable (and welcome) feat. Lightning?? What lightning?? Up until this past Thursday & Friday- we've gotten nothing all summer...not even a drop of rain...everything kept going to the north and the south- and we're scorched earth. Been on fire alert all summer... But heck- takes that long for me just to get out of my dang neighborhood anymore. Well- have fun staking out PO boxes Shooter... ;D

Hey, no problem, Sis. But I have to say it doesn't shine for me like "Population Me" and "Tomorrow's Sounds Today" do--I don't get where you think the last few lacked fun or zip! I guess that diff'rent strokes thing, eh? With everyone being so busy these days- wonder if we'll make the record book for 'pregnant pauses in the course of conversations'?? ;D They had the opposite effect on me- so yep, I guess so. ;D But hey- for the most part, we fundamentally agree on certain artists...it's just a case we all have different song and/or album preferences. Only natural...people relate to things differently- it's what makes us different...if we all liked exactly the same everything- how boring (and scary ) would that be?? It's scary enough when me & Shooter agree on something...or anything. Honestly- I was a little surprised when Keith took on playing the 'second banana' role with Dwight. He already was 'solo'- long before hooking up with Dwight... He put out a real nice album in the mid-90s (RCA, I think)- very 'George Jones-ish'...or in other words at that time- way 'too country for country' for it to stand a chance. So he focused on his songwriting (and has had a lot of his songs recorded) and did a lot of session work (among many others- worked with Jones as a matter of fact). He produced Cory Morrow's new album too- and did a heck of a job there too...moved Cory out beyond that 'Shiner-Bock-raising-hell' syndrome- a much deeper, mature album and he got Cory to try a few new things too with great results. And he finally released his own second album- Big City Blues- at the beginning of this year...an indie release- much different than the first major label release...much closer in sound to Charlie Robison or Jack Ingram and personally I really like it. Keith wrote El Cerrito Place- which Charlie recorded on his last album and had a hit with it (at least on the TMC)- and he does his own version on his new album and IMO, it's every bit as great as Charlie's version. Aw SAM darlin'- methinks you're maybe being a little tough on the poor guy ...everybody ain't a technically proficient 'Pete Anderson' type and Pete already had his sights set on his next 'project' anyways... I think Gattis has talent...it just different from Pete's talent- but I don't see that as being a bad thing.

;D ;D Shooter's a little wigged out by THAT comment, LS. Seriously, I figure I'd be able to play the part of jail house lawyer and thus avoid the "scuffs" that ordinarily would accompany someone of my ilk. ;D And if those damn birds crap on car again, I'll personally deliver a summons and complaint to your doorstep. ;D I'm pretty certain that "far enough" would be Bush's ranch in Texas. ;D Good to know, LS. Shooter can burn the honky tonk down, but the lady in charge only "understands" the swing, if you catch my drift. How else would I have known this, but for you? Wow, what startling news. 100 albums!!!! LS, I've heard that the showers and thunderstorms have somehow done gymnastics to avoid your area. Yet another example of how Mother Nature is the most fickle of power brokers. Seriously, we are in a drought situation as well (as of this week). I drove by one of the local reservoirs today. Saw nothing but cracked reservoir bottom. Reminded me of something I once saw in Arizona. Last summer was one of the wettest I can remember, this summer, the exact opposite. I give up! Oh well, my PIs have had tougher tasks. Just means more "past due" charges. ;D
