Yoakam Prepping New Album, Tour
Dwight Yoakam will release a new, as-yet untitled studio album for New West this year, with a tour to follow. "The album should be ready for release around springtime," Yoakam said in a message on his official Web site. "I'm back in the studio now finishing the vocals. Although I did play a few isolated shows last year with my band, it looks as if we will be playing a full tour this summer."
Yoakam's most recent studio album was 2003's "Population: Me," which debuted at No. 7 on Billboard's Top Country Albums tally. Last year, he released the compilations "Dwight's Used Records" and "The Very Best of Dwight Yoakam."
In addition, the artist says he will appearing in three movies this year, including "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," a film starring and directed by Tommy Lee Jones. He also stars in "Bandidas" with Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayek and has a cameo in "Wedding Crashers" featuring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

I hope he heads down this way. I have never seen Dwihgt live. He was here in the traveling circus show or whatever it was with Brooks and Dunn, but, I just couldn't bring myself to part with money for that show.

Hey, Larry, welcome back! ;D I'm around - just busier than hell! For those that do not know, I am opening a website to offer downloadable SINGLES and full CD's of Independent Artists and Labels. What this does is force me to go meet all these guys (like that's a bad thing:) and try to get them signed. So far we have Travis Linville & The Burschi Brothers, Doug Moreland, Maggie Brown, Mark Jungers, South Austin Jug Bandm Ryan Bingham, Blake Powers, Fallon Frankin and several others. Houston Marchman is interested and I saw Dale Watson Sat night and he wants to come on as well. It's going to take time to get all these guys signed up (alot of back and forth messaging, etc) but it will be worth it in the long run. We plan on launching within the next 10 days. Needless to say I've been busier than a 1 armed paper hanger!

I know a couple gals who might smack me for this one, but Yoakam without Anderson is going to be like a rodeo with no cowboys. I wasn't too impressed with the last time I saw him, and I've been talkin' to some of the musicians comin' through here. Their opinion on how Yoakam treated his boys ain't very flattering.
I guess I'll reserve judgement until I hear the new sound, since I know we'll be buying it and going to the show if he comes here.
In the meantime, I'm starting to learn a little about Arizona country, and it may not be as well known as my own Texas country, but there's some really talented boys down these parts who deserve some notice, yessir, they do.

I'll reserve judgement too...but it seems like he doesn't know what he wants to do- music or acting- and he just can't seem to find a balance and is drifting aimlessly between the two. Mid-life crisis maybe?? I know Insley, Dayton, Olsen and sometimes Morgan...so like who else??

Mid-life crisis maybe?? Could be. Guy with that much talent, it just makes my teeth hurt. Check out this fellow: www.andyhersey.com <-- he's better live than his disc, but the disc kicks @$$, anyway. "Companero Blanco" is one of the finest songs I think I've ever heard. I first saw him playing with Dave Insley (his new disc is finally coming out, this week down here; I think later in the month nationally), and he flat-out blew me away. His fiddle player (Tim O'Connor) was amazing.

Dwight's actually going to hit Europe this year -- the UK fans on my list are frothing at the mouth. I still love me some Dwight, but having talked at length with some musicians who knew the guys around him, I'm still kinda mad at him for the whole fiasco. And I'm the rare Dwight fan who's on Pete's side. Andy Hersey! AWESOME!

Yoakam Plots New Album, Tour, Films
For the first time in a recording career that stretches back to the mid-1980s, Dwight Yoakam took the entire production mantle on his shoulders in the studio. The resulting effort, "Blame the Vain," will be released June 14 as his first album for the independent New West label.
"There's a lot of reckless joy on this album," Yoakam says of the 12-track set, on which he is accompanied by guitarist Keith Gattis, keyboardist Skip Edwards, bassist Taras Prodaniuk, drummer Mitch Marine and percussionist Bobbye Hall. "We never left a session that wasnít flat-out fun."
Material on the set ranges from the shuffle of "I Want To Love Again" ("I have to pay tribute to Buck [Owens] and the Bakersfield sound on every album," Yoakam says) to the "psycho-hillbilly squall" of "Intentional Heartache" to the country rock "She'll Remember," the intro of which the artist describes as "an homage to the Moody Blues [and] ELP via Monty Python."
"Blame the Vain" is the follow-up to 2003's "Population Me" (Audium/Koch), which debuted at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and No. 75 on The Billboard 200. Last year's "The Very Best of Dwight Yoakam" (Reprise/Rhino) bowed at No. 10 on the country chart and No. 87 on The Billboard 200.
Yoakam plans to hit the road in support of the new album, beginning June 30 in Alpine, Calif. A quick early July trip to Europe will be followed by more North American dates. Beforehand, he's slated to play an April 29 show in Helotes, Texas, and a June 11 date in West Hollywood, Calif.
All the music won't stop this occasional actor from being seen on the big screen in 2005. He makes a cameo in July's "The Wedding Crashers," which stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan and appears opposite Penelope Cruz in "Bandidas," due in North American theaters in September. He also stars with Salma Hayek in the Tommy Lee Jones-written/directed feature "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," due out later this year.
Here is the "Blame the Vain" track list:
"Blame the Vain" "Lucky That Way" "Intentional Heartache" "Does It Show" "Three Good Reasons" "Just Passin' Time" "I'll Pretend" "She'll Remember" "I Wanna Love Again" "When I First Came Here" "Watch Out" "The Last Heart in Line"
Here are Yoakam's tour dates:

They're previewing Dwight's Blame The Vain album over on CMT: www.cmt.com/artists/az/yoakam_dwight/896732/album.jhtmlGotta say...I really like it- especially "She'll Remember"- starts out really different and "Last Heart In Line"- a full blown string laden ballad (similar to the way "Back Of My Hand" was done) and if Dwight wasn't singing it- I could definitely hear Raul Malo doing that one.

LS, I checked out CMT's Blame the Vain preview...or "listening party," as they call it. "Last Heart in Line" indeed echoes "Back of My Hand." Good call. And probably the best cut on the album. "She'll Remember" works for me, but no thanks to the, ahem, strange opening - looks like we'll just have to disagree on that aspect. ;D
