Good God Red, I could of sworn you said a long time ago you'd had more than your fill of legal eagle ass kicking! "A man who represents himself has a fool for a client"...yeah right. Except in cases where the 'fool client' is not nearly as big a fool and has far more active braincells than most bona fide 'legal representatives.' ;D <generally speaking of course Shooter >

Roland, I'm subjected to "honey-do" POST-IT NOTES, but I get your point. ;D From what I've gathered, you're recently married? Give it time. Before you know it, the post-its will soon turn into sheets of looseleaf taped together and then duct taped to the front of your underwear drawer so there's no way you can possibly miss it. That's fair enough Mr. Shooter. You had me a little confused when at first you seemed say you weren't very fond of judges, but then started defending them. I thought as a lawyer you'd have come across at least a few of the kind of non-lawyer judges we were referring to. Nothing was meant personally, we were talking about the system in general and you're right and there are some very good judges and lawyers out there.

Speaking of the underware drawer, I just found this little message: "Fold 'em yourself." ;D Roland, it will be one year in October, so yeah, recently married...and STILL married. ;D From the way you're talking, sounds like the days of wine and roses loom ahead.

I was confused, you were confused...we really should stop boozin' it up while trying to make sense on this board. ;D Seriously, I regret that I came across as a defender of judges. Wasn't my intention at all. I was just speaking from experience. The judicial system indeed is a train wreck. I've just been lucky enough to sidestep the true imbeciles (other than myself, of course ).

With all of the "professional" fools marauding around the justice system (judges and lawyers both), the deck is truly stacked against the civilian who attempts self-representation. All of these professional slime balls know how to "work" the system, if nothing else; the civilian, notwithstanding his or her far greater intellectual capacity , ultimately will lose out to the politics, back-slapping and back-scratching that defines the legal profession. Of course, I know you are a "special" case. One icy stare-down from you and these clowns wouldn't stand a chance.

The honeymoon's winding down, and you're now at phase 1. When you reach phase 2 -- you'll find the laundry basket sitting on your side of the bed with a note that says " Do it yourself". ;D Congratulations and yes, there's plenty of days of wine and roses ahead. ;D I've found both to be very helpful in navigating the minefields of PMS and post-partum mood swings. The wine is for you to steady your nerves and the roses are for her -- they seem to have a calming effect on her nerves that, although you've no idea how you did it, you somehow managed to get on. ;D

Ordinarily I might agree with you that drinking and trying to make sense don't mix. But in the course of hosting a sleep over and attempting to explain to five eight year olds that a water balloon fight is not an indoor activity I was in desperate need of a good stiff one. Or three. I think we can safely say a lot of the same can be said of my profession. I was reluctant to reveal that I am a teacher, not because I'm ashamed of my profession, but because I'm fully aware there are those that have given the profession in general a bad name. I know many excellent fellow collegues and administators. On the downside, I've also known many that were bad and some that were brazenly corrupt and were it up to me, they would have been fired years ago. I believe tenure, at this point in time, has outlived it's usefulness since today there are ample anti-discrimination laws on the books. I am confident in my training and qualifications, so I don't have a problem with being re-certified every 5 years or so, I think it would go a long way in weeding out the bad apples so the students can get the best education possible. I do not agree with a lot of the teachers' unions agenda, for the most part they are a self serving lot who have neither the teachers' or students' interests at heart. In the end I too can only be responsible for myself, follow my conscience and do my job to the best of my ability.

The wine definitely will come in handy. As I get older, I begin to appreciate the subtle nuances of a fine Merlot...as opposed to the "let's get the party started" sentiment attached to the Jose Cuervo of my youth. ;D The roses...well, if my wife manages to WATER them, I think we'll be fine. ;D

My wife and I have often remarked that children will effectively end whatever quiet and alone time we now share. As such, the "group sleepover" is very much a recurring nightmare in my house. ;D Anyhow, we're on what we call the "five year plan." In five years, we hope to be living in a house big enough (and far enough OUTSIDE of the NYC metropolitan area) to accomodate a plethora of kids and whatever else comes with them.

Nope Shooter...I'm not "special"- I'm just not one to be intimidated...especially by snooty clerks, condescending judges or buffoon lawyers- and no icy stares were required- just time, effort, patience- and good old fashioned brainpower. ;D And nope Shooter- I'm not talking about penny ante little league stuff here...due to negligence and complete incompetency- I was innocently thrust into a very serious situation where I was doing battle with high powered law firms that represented the mortgage divisions of the #1 and #4 largest banking institutions in this country...and yep- the slimeball clowns did a very outstanding job of proving themselves to be nothing more than that- and ultimately found themselves with a lot more trouble than they bargained for.

;D Roland, what does it say about me that I've reached Phase 2 EARLY? ;D I'd say that you've married a tough cookie and you may very well be the next in line to inherit the Martha Stewart throne. Still, I'd hang on to that Cuervo. ;D

I come from one of those big noisy families, so after we first got married, the quiet, alone time was somewhat disconcerting to me. I will admit though when the kids started coming, those 2 and 4 am feedings wear thin very fast. It's the hardest job there is, plenty of highs and lows but the highs have always outweighed the lows and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have to disagree with people who say kids keep you young though. I've found it to be the opposite, they grow up so fast that you can't comprehend where the time's gone.
