Merle Kilgore Dies -- Legendary singer/songwriter Merle Kilgore died Sunday night in Mexico of medical complications related to his treatment for cancer. He was 70. During his career, Kilgore was a singer, songwriter, disc jockey, actor and personal manager for Hank Williams Jr, and also worked with Hank Williams Sr.
As a songwriter, he co-wrote "Ring of Fire" with June Carter. Kilgore also wrote "Wolverton Mountain," a hit in 1962 by Claude King, and "Johnny Reb," a hit in 1959 by Johnny Horton.
Kilgore is survived by his wife, Judy, two sons and three daughters. He also had eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

I was shocked when I heard this today. I would venture tosay Merle's family and Hank Jr. are torn-up over his death. RIP Merle.
