Guy Rolls With Richards, Santana On New Album Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. August 02, 2005
Buddy Guy collaborates with everyone from Keith Richards and Carlos Santana to John Mayer and Keb' Mo' on his new album, "Bring 'Em In." Due Sept. 20 via Jive, the set finds the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee putting his own slant on material popularized by Curtis Mayfield, Johnny Taylor, Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding, among others.
Mayer guests on a cover of Redding's "I've Got Dreams To Remember," while Santana drops by for a version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You." Elsewhere, Richards straps on his six-string for "Price You Gotta Pay." The set also features a new Guy original, "What Kinda Woman Is This."
"Bring 'Em In" was recorded in Memphis at Royal Studios, with several arrangements supplied by longtime Al Green collaborator Willie Mitchell. Among the other musicians contributing to the set are drummer Steve Jordan (who also produced), bassist Willie Weeks, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and guitarist Dannie Kortchmar.
The album is the follow-up to Guy's 2003 effort "Blues Singer," which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart.
Guy will hit the road in North America in the fall, with appearances already confirmed at Farm Aid (Sept. 18) in Tinley Park, Ill., and Texas' Austin City Limits Festival (Sept. 24). The artist will also play three shows in Brazil in late November.

Yes snizz, it's been a lovely summer all the way around hasn't it? I'm so looking forward to some snow! ;D I told my wife if she heard me dare curse once at shoveling, she had my permission to bash me over the head with the shovel. ;D Is this the year of the duet albums? Buddy Guy covering classic R&B and soul. That has some tantalizing possibilities.

I can't take it anymore! We finally ditched the scorching heat, but this friggin humidity! We had close to the same conversation at our place. ;D Only my wife told me if she heard any pissing and moaning from me about snow, she was going to strangle me with her bare hands.

I tell you pal, I'm counting the days. I can't take it anymore! Yes, but then the drawback to the countdown is that as it winds down, it only means one thing. Back to school.

That being a "drawback" all depends on which side of the fence you're on my friend. ;D I believe age is starting to creep up on me. For some reason I'm having a very hard time getting back into the swing of things this year. I picked this one up on the way home yesterday. The song list had my curiosity aroused and I wasn't sure what to expect. I suppose I was envisioning Buddy taking a more mellow, soul route on this one, closer in sound to Solomon Burke or the late Little Milton. I was wrong! Buddy is still hardcore blues to the bone. The closest he gets to pure soul is on Dreams To Remember, and even then he delivers some gritty vocals. The only song that raises a question is what I can only describe as a very bizarre rendition of "Lay Lady Lay."

Not until you've advanced to the stage of getting up more than once during the night to take a leak. ;D Another one that has to wait till after payday. I did manage to swing Tab Benoit's Fever On The Bayou though. Whoa boy, that one's 5 out of 5 stars!
