Buffett Eyeing Fenway Park Concerts
First they hosted "The Boss." Now the owners of the Boston Red Sox are hoping for a siege of "Parrotheads" at Fenway Park. Team officials have applied to the city for entertainment licenses to stage Jimmy Buffett concerts on Sept. 10 and 12. It would be the second big act to play Fenway in a year after Bruce Springsteen's shows last summer, the first rock concerts in the venerable park's history.
Mayor Thomas Menino, a Buffet fan, said there's no reason the show shouldn't go on, and said he wants to convert a neighborhood parking lot the Red Sox own into an all-day party spot for Parrotheads, as Buffett fans are called.
"They can come together and have their trailers and their parties, and they won't be on the streets," Menino said. "It will be `Parrothead Village.'"
But some neighbors who complained about noise and vandalism during Springsteen's two concerts were angry about the plans. "When we supported it last year, we supported it as a one-time special event," said Bill Richardson, president of the Fenway Civic Association. "We don't think that Fenway Park is an appropriate place for a regular concert venue. It throws a kink into the whole stadium-neighborhood dynamic."
Councilor Michael P. Ross, who represents the Fenway and Kenmore neighborhoods, said steps must be taken to minimize traffic and noise. "The Red Sox tend to care about their reputation in the neighborhood," Ross said. "If it goes off perfectly, this could be something people are willing to consider in subsequent years."
Red Sox senior vice president Larry Cancro said concerts at Fenway could be a yearly event. "It's not the kind of thing we'd do every weekend; maybe we could do it once a year," he said. "The majority of the people are going to be pleased and come out with a situation that's going to help the overall neighborhood feel good."
As previously reported, Buffett is expected to release a new studio album, "License To Chill," this summer via his own Mailboat label. Thus far, he has five dates on his upcoming itinerary, beginning April 22 in Tampa, Fla., and wrapping May 1 in Ft. Lauderdale.

Had a busy weekend this past weekend and haven't had a chance to post about the show? First off Ticketmaster must've sold a lot more tickets than they should have. I can vouch for this they double sold my seats when my sister and I got to our seats there were people sitting in them. We checked both sets of tickets and they were identical. No big deal we found a couple seats and joined the party, other than the sound not being that good the show was great he's doing C, S & N's "Southern Cross" and Hank SR's "Hey good Looking" This year. Highlights "Why don't we get drunk" "Fruitcakes" "Pirate looks at Forty" "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and of course Margaritaville and "Fins" A good time was had by all, We all got our "License to Chill"

Was it a ClearChannel venue by chance DRL?? They're notorious for that crap... Well glad to hear otherwise you had a great time. Was only ever able to snag tickets once myself...and doesn't look like it'll be happening this year either ...but maybe someday.

Buffett Shows Set For Fenway Park
After weeks of local debate, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band have been confirmed for a two-night stand at Boston's historic Fenway Park on Sept. 10 and 12. Tickets will go on sale May 8 via Ticketmaster.
The two concerts mark the second consecutive year that the legendary ballpark has been the site of a major September concert. Last fall, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's staged a similar two-night stop at Fenway.
The Fenway stand marks the second shift in Buffett's traditionally stalwart summer tour schedule. As previously reported, Buffett, Alan Jackson and George Strait will share top billing at a May 29 concert at Dallas' Texas Stadium.
Buffett's new country-tinged album, "License To Chill," featuring collaborations with Strait, Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney, is scheduled for release this summer via his own Mailboat label.
