Mayer Launches Blues Trio
DAVID WOLINSKY
John Mayer has set the dates for his fall tour for his newly formed John Mayer Trio. The blues outfit -- which features Mayer on guitar and vocals, Steve Jordan (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones) on drums and Pino Palladino (the Who, Jeff Beck) on bass -- will get started September 6th in San Francisco and wrap up October 12th in Philadelphia. The band will also get three cracks at opening for the Rolling Stones.
"I'm gonna go out and just play power-rockin', electric-guitar, in-your-face blues," Mayer told Rolling Stone.
The trio came together for the January Tsunami Aid benefit, during which they performed Jimi Hendrix's "Bold as Love." Mayer says the more hard-rocking sound will spill onto his next album, Continuum, due early next year. "They are tunes that live on guitar," Mayer said. "When it comes out, I may never win a Grammy again, I may never sell a million records again, but the world will get where I'm coming from."
