Hey LS, I saw Clarence Clemons on Channel 11 (WB) this morning. He was doing some cuts from his new solo album. Sounded terrific. Did you pick this one up yet?

Who are you and WHAT DID YOU DO WITH SHOOTER??!! I DEMAND you return him at once!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Believe it or not, LS, it's really me!!!! Now, I'm not about to run out and buy this guy's album (or anything from his buddy, Bruce), but I do have to admit I liked what I heard the other day. Hey, I'm on a roll. Perhaps next I'll admit to having listened to the Stones. ;D

Dang Shooter- knock it off...ya scare the jeebies outta me when your not characteristically you!! Well since you're being serious - yeah, I have the disc (since I worked on the shows and was there )...it's Vol. II from a set of live shows he did at the Stone Pony back in '01... In most aspects, his music is very different from that of 'his buddy's' (as is the solo music of most of the E-Streeters) - and as he mentions- he did already have a career long before he met Bruce (as did most of the other E-Streeters- Bruce was actually hired by them to play guitar- not unlike Strait being hired by Ace In The Hole as their vocalist...funny how some things turn out. ). The live discs he recorded with is new band The Temple of Soul (as previously mentioned, most of the E-Streeters also have side careers)- one kick a$$ band he formed in Miami. It's a blend of Latin beats, a little jazz, a little blues, a lot of soul and some butt kicking good old fashioned R&R. Most people who aren't familiar with his work outside E Street are usually pretty surprised at what a great singer and songwriter in his own right he is. I don't know which songs you heard him perform- but in case someday you get daring ...go for Vol. I first- it's definitely the better of the two. For some odd reason they put 3 (among the best ones) of the songs from Vol I on the Vol II disc...though Vol II has a killer version of Pink Cadillac (definitely not done the Bruce way ;D ) and one of the songs that Bruce showed up at the shows to play on (a great version of Raise Your Hand). But for something completely different...you might want to check out his Peacemaker disc, which is my personal fav. Pretty sure Amazon has sound clips of this one. It's all instrumental...the ultimate chill out disc (and I suppose it would make for some excellent 'mood music' if you catch my drift. ) ...very mellow and soothing- a little bluesy, lite jazz- kind of a modern day cross between Brubeck's Take Five and Herb Alpert's Rise albums.

LS, I simply don't know what you mean by "mood music." You know, I just fell off the applecart. ;D Seriously, I don't recall the names of the songs I heard the other morning. They were bluesy instrumentals, one of which, to my ear, had elements of "Take the A Train." Clemons actually appeared with what he called a skeleton-crew band: fiddle, keyboard and guitar (and, of course, Clemons on sax). Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised because I expected to hear straight-up rock and roll from Bruce's sax guy. What I got went down nice and easy with my morning croissant and cafe au lait. ;D

LS, I simply don't know what you mean by "mood music." You know, I just fell off the applecart. ;D ...And landed on your head. Whew- that's a relief!! See- I knew there had to be a perfectly rational explanation for this. ;D Ah then if he had Randi with him (she's his fiddler)...with elements of the Duke- then my guess is "Another Place," and also probably did my favorite, "Road To Paradise." Yeah, most musicians are funny like that and can play (and sometimes even prefer ) other types of music than what they usually play. I mean after all, who knew AJ could sing the blues- and sing them pretty well.
