Bush said: "I'm the commander, I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation...." - November 21, 2002 From an interview conducted by Bob Woodward
Bush said: "The legislature's job is to write law. It's the executive branch's job to interpret law." - Austin, Texas, Nov. 22, 2000, Slate (I still wonder exactly what he thinks the function of the Judicial branch is...)
Bush said: "I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe, and what I believe I believe, what I believe is right," July 23, 2001
Bush said: "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier...just as long as I'm the dictator..." Washington, DC, Dec 18, 2000, during his first trip to Washington as President-Elect

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”
“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”
