Willie's "It Always Will Be" is an outstanding album. Finally had the chance to listen to it. One of the best I've heard in a very long time. "Picture in a Frame" IMHO is the best track. 5 stars.

Willie's "It Always Will Be" is an outstanding album. Finally had the chance to listen to it. One of the best I've heard in a very long time. "Picture in a Frame" IMHO is the best track. 5 stars. Yeah...it's a good one and about time he finally did some non-duets!! I wasn't sure what to expect since except for Mickey- it was recorded with studio musicians. But basically a good job there. My pick is "It Will Always Be" as the best track...and it's the best song he's written in years. His solo version of "Picture In A Frame" is a good one too...but it looks like most everybody missed that this isn't the first time he cut it and are totally unaware of his terrific duet album with Kimmie Rhodes last year - they cut it as a duet (on their album of the same title)...it's a toss up- I can't decide if I like the duet or his solo version better. I can't possibly give it 5 stars though ...It'd be a 4 1/2 if they'd have ditched Paula and he recorded "Be That As It May" solo instead of as a duet. She wrote a really great song (inherited her dad's genes there)...but sorry- the poor girl sounds like she's tryin' to cough up a hairball ...And it drops down to 4 stars because of that awful- awful- monstrosity of a track 14!! "Midnight Rider" is one of my all time favorite songs and they totally massacred it!! I've never heard a worse version- and that has to rank as one of the all time worst Willie-sung songs ever...And done with an electronic hip-hop beat??!! I'll take a wild guess and that one had to be Toby's idea ...Willie shoulda known better- that he couldn't carry off that song...Charlie Daniels probably could- maybe even Chris LeDoux- but no way Willie and no way that arrangement ...If I were Greg Allman- I'd definitely sue!!

LS, nice to see you breaking it all down so very splendidly. ;D I will agree that SOME songwriters should NEVER make the perhaps illogical leap to singer. You nailed it - that song is pretty much like nails on a chalkboard. Never heard the duet version of "Picture in a Frame," but having heard Willie do it solo, I don't need to. That being said, I will defer to you in terms of doing a comparison. The five star rating...what can I say, I'm an easy grader.

Not sure if you mentioned Randy Travis' "Passing Through," LS. Think it came out at the end of 2004, just heard it in its entirety. All I can say is, wow. The man's voice is no longer as smooth as silk...it's time-worn and much better. A fantastic country album. "My Daddy Never Was" is a song that will surely break your heart.

I will agree that SOME songwriters should NEVER make the perhaps illogical leap to singer. You nailed it - that song is pretty much like nails on a chalkboard. I've heard some of Paula's solo stuff...she leans more to the bluesy side and she's really not bad- reminds me a little of Lucinda Williams. It's such a great song and arrangement though- I like the bluesy groove to it. The more I listen to it the more it's growing on me and it's not quite as grating anymore...I think she was tryin' to go for a 'growl' that kept gettin' stuck in her throat. Aside from that- her vocals were ok on the rest of the song... Oh come on Shooter- loosen up...live a little...get wild & crazy!! Here's the link...you can listen to it for yourself (along with the rest of the album). I promise this one won't hurt- it defintely falls into your 'easy listening' range ;D ...and IMO Kimmie's got a pretty voice- a little like a young Emmylou. www.lucktexas.com/pictureinaframe.html Nope Shooter I didn't...I've been greatly slacking in my 'duties' of late... ...though I did see it listed among the upcoming releases- but there was no other info on it so wasn't sure at the time if it was another gospel album...

LEE ANN WOMACK There's More Where That Came From Producer(s): Byron Gallimore Genre: COUNTRY Label/Catalog Number: MCA B0003073 Release Date: Jan. 25 Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: February 05, 2005
Hallelujah. One of country music's great singers is singing country again—bona fide lovin', cryin' and cheatin' songs. From the "classic" MCA label logo to Byron Gallimore's production to the CD cover, Lee Ann Womack's latest has a retro feel. Teamed with her classic country sound, that's a very good thing. The title cut, with its weeping fiddle and soaring performance from Womack, is an instant entry into the country lexicon, as is leadoff single "I May Hate Myself in the Morning." Womack evokes George Jones on the killer "One's a Couple" and tender, world-weary "Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago." Other gems include the insistent midtempo "He Oughta Know That by Now" and the more contemporary "When You Get to Me." The album's closer, "Stubborn (Psalm 151)" is an introspective titan penned by Don Schlitz and Brett James. Consider this an early contender for best country album of the year.—RW

Willie Nelson and Friends Relief DVD and CD Coming Soon!Texas Roadhouse also supports our family member, Willie Nelson, in his effort to raise awareness and funds for the relief efforts being carried out. In the wake of the world’s most tragic event, Austin Legend Willie Nelson and fellow Texas musicians hope to turn the tide beyond their January 9th benefit concert by offering a DVD and CD of this historic benefit concert event. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the DVD and CD, “Tsunami Relief: From Austin to South Asia,” will benefit the Tsunami Relief efforts of C.A.R.E., the American Red Cross, and UNICEF. Both projects will be available at Willie’s Corner very soon. The benefit concert featured Willie Nelson with the Joe Ely Band, Spoon, Patti Griffin, Alejandro Escovedo, Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis, and special guests. www.texasroadhouse.com _________________________________ DALLAS WAYNE Album Title: I'm Your Biggest FanProducer(s): Dallas Wayne Genre: COUNTRY Label: Koch Release Date: Feb. 22Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: February 26, 2005 The fact that Dallas Wayne, one bodacious country singer/songwriter, is still laboring in semi-obscurity is a sin. He of the rumbling twang and lethal tremelo has created another killer record, beginning with the slacker's two-step "3:30 in the Afternoon." Adept at clever wordplay, Wayne shows off on cuts like the Texas swingin' "Junior Samples" and "Tex-tosterone." Also impressive are the swamp-honk "Downhill Slide," the shuffling "It's All Over, All Over Town" and the rousing "Crank the Hank." A balladeer from the John Anderson school, the Big D nails "She's Good to Go" and the fiddle-drenched "Still Know How to Cry." He's also pretty convincing on spoken-word weeper "Tell It to the Jukebox," which is every bit as cool as it is corny. But the real showstopper is the freaky title cut, which comes off like Stephen King on moonshine. If you don't get Dallas Wayne, you ain't country.—RW ___________________________________________ Ray Wylie Hubbard- "Delirium Tremolos" (1/25/05) Reckless Kelly- "Wicked Twisted Road" (2/8/05) Mary Gauthier- "Mercy Now" (2/15/05) Rex Hobart & The Misery Boys- "Empty House" (2/22/05) Hacienda Brothers- "Soul" (2/22/05) Los Lonely Boys- "Live At The Fillmore" (2/22/05) Shooter Jennings- "Put The 'O' Back In Country" (3/1/05)

I bought LeeAnn Womack's new album. I like it...beats that terrible I Hope You Dance slop. I expressed my opinion when LeeAnn sang that song at a Charlie Daniels charity concert. The lady sitting next to me became infuriated. She got up and found herself another seat. I picked up Willie's " It Always Will Be" today. I like every track except for the last one - Midnight Rider. Willie's music is always healing. That is the way he wants it to be too. I've heard him say that many times. It was real good to listen to Willie on Open Road XM a week ago too. From the way he talked, he is going to do the talk show thing on a weekly basis. The truckers that called in think the world of Willie. He is involved with this new bio-diesel gas. I listened to a nice concert, featuring Reckless Kelly, on Tuesday night. The concert was on X Country - XM Radio.

Eleven Hundred Springs- "Bandwagon" I just listened to them on XM 12. They did a live show on 01/26/05 in DC. Tonight was the first airing of the show. I like them.
I received Dallas Wayne's new CD on Monday. I like it...especially track 9 " Tell It To The Jukebox. " Why this guy isn't on radio is beyond me. This boy can sing a country song. And he sing some purty good bluegrass too.

I expressed my opinion when LeeAnn sang that song at a Charlie Daniels charity concert. The lady sitting next to me became infuriated. She got up and found herself another seat. Why am I not surprised?? ;D I like Womack's new one too...I'm willing to consider it her long awaited second release and just try to forget all the other crap that came in-between. I always liked Eleven Hundred Springs myself (though I like A Straighter Line a little better than Bandwagon)...there's a lot of good songs on the album, but Bandwagon's worth it just for Why You Been Gone So Long, Swerving and their great version of Rock Island Line alone. I love Dallas Wayne's too...but asking why he's not on the radio is kinda like asking why ain't Dale Watson a country music superstar. I like Shooter's album too...he reminds me some of Hank III- just 'both sides' of him mixed together. He played his harder rockin' stuff at CBGB's...which that's on the album- but so's a couple stone country songs, a couple in the vein of Waylon (actually the title track is a reworking of Are You Ready For The Country...he just changed the words some and gives Neil co-writing credit), a couple Texas Music style songs...and there's a couple appearances by the Possum himself.

I listened to Mark Chesnutt the other day on XM. He is a hoot! A fishing junkie. Mark said he was going on a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame and all he wanted to do was touch some of Hank Sr.'s stuff. I love his new album.
I heard Houston Marchman's "South Texas Rain" on the XM Radio yesterday. It was way too cool. He reminds me so much of John Mellencamp.
I know it may sound as though I am pushing XM, but, I am like a kid at Christmas with this toy. The America station is doing "Outlaw" shows. They are going to be playing Dallas Wayne music. YeeHaw!
It is so nice to hear all my heroes on the radio - again. A piece of my life is back in tact.

Not really a new release, but something I happened upon recently....Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill. Some pretty decent country songs on there, capped by his channeling of Conway on "Goobye Time." Worth the price of admission, IMHO. "Some Beach", not so much. The jury's long been out for me on Blake. Although this hasn't yet sealed the deal, I'm a lot closer to liking the guy's (faux?) traditionalism.

I liked some of his first album, particularly Old Red, but most of what he's put out since has been less than stellar.
