Well, I'm assuming birthday boxes only appear for those of us who put our birthdays on the calander. I put mine up lo those many years ago, but yours isn't there, nor many others, so you shouldn't have to worry. Nope- I just checked and looks like everybody who reactivated so far had their dates automatically added- cause mine's there now and I know I never put it in...I tried deactivating the calendar thinking that might make it go away- but that didn't work. Maybe the stupid thing just shows up if there is a birthday and then goes away when there's not?? Still & all- I don't want mine 'announced'...it's already passed though- so hopefully we can ditch it before it rolls around again... ------------------------------------------------------------ TM...JUST SO YOU'RE AWARE...ROUGHNECK WAS ABLE TO LOCK THE POLL- BUT I CAN'T UNLOCK IT. IT SHOWS THAT IT WAS UNLOCKED- BUT THEN WHEN YOU GO OUT TO THE MAIN BOARD PAGE IT'S STILL LOCKED. TRIED UNLOCKING IT AGAIN AND INSTEAD OF GOING BACK TO THE MAIN PAGE- I TRIED MAKING A POST AND IT LOCKED AGAIN. OBVIOUSLY ANOTHER GLITCH...

Spellcheckas are for wussies. ;D I don't need no stinkin spellchecka. It will be a good job when it's finished. As for screwing things up...... I do well at that. The other day I blew up a server with of all things, a new backup package. There's irony. Backup software to protect the server blows it, but it was a spare server. Test, test, test before implamenting on the main. Some people need to learn that. No No No normalcy was never a character trait of mine. ;D ;D ;D ;D I just found out, the spell checker does not work in Opera.

JIMNEY CRICKET!! If ya'll knew what I had to do to get in.Anyway I finally got in and so far I haven't see any problems. What happened DRL?? Bad key code?? I know TM had some problems too...The only problem I had was the 'too many connections' message. Took some doing, but I finally found a way around that one. Glad you made it back though!! Nope Didn't get a bad key code.I didn't get one at all. I had to reactivate my Yahoo addy to get a code because from what I understand AOL dosen't like ProBoards, much to my surprise in order to activate my yahoo I had to pay for it.Oh well.

'nother problem. I hate how they now have the button up top for delete all, and to delete one you have to check it and click the box below. I haven't made that mistake, but that seems like an accident waiting to happen to clean out your inbox. Does it at least ask for confirmation? Pointless anyway. If you want to clean it all out, click the check all box then click delete.

Spellcheckas are for wussies. ;D I don't need no stinkin spellchecka. Spoken like a true boi from da Bronx... Let's see...just the 'coding conflict' thread alone is up to 17 pages now ...so I figure by the time everybody finally gets all their coding fixed- the geniuses will probably lay V5 on us. And just because somebody knows a little code- they think they can write a software program... Gotta love it though...considering this had supposedly been beta tested for almost a year! No, no- it never was. ;D But if ya don't need no stinkin' spellchecka...then how'd you find that one out??

Aw DRL...you got snookered by Yahoo. That ain't fair- this whole update was handled badly and Proboards' screwups aren't your fault...I feel really bad about that. After the V3 update when people were having tons of trouble getting into the forum, we'd opened a Yahoo account so anyone having problems could email us so we could try to help- but we haven't used it since then... After this update, I figured I'd re-post the addy, just in case- and found out they inactivated it...I got the same thing about having to pay to get it reactivated- which didn't fly with me...but when you go down the page further, there is an option to reactivate it for free- you just have to click the agreement that you understand it'll be inactivated again if it's not accessed during 'x' amount of time. I have an alternate Hotmail addy, and they do the same thing all the time. You have to read really carefully- they do that to try to snag as many paid accounts as they can...so they try to bury the info for 'free' accounts and you really have to search for it. Yeah AOL, Verizon and a few other ISPs block Proboards emails...so alot of people couldn't get their codes. Over the weekend a few people who had this problem with AOL said that if you add this to some kind of 'accepted email addy list' feature AOL has: nobody@proboards.com (which is the addy that's on emails sent from Proboards), it worked for them and the emails got through. Unfortunately that info was posted too late for a lot of people - you were already back in by then- but try adding it to your list for anything that might come up in the future.

I haven't made that mistake, but that seems like an accident waiting to happen to clean out your inbox. Does it at least ask for confirmation? Pointless anyway. If you want to clean it all out, click the check all box then click delete. Yep...people are screaming about that one because a lot of people have already inadvertently done that. So obviously, nope it doesn't ask for confirmation once you click the wrong button. I don't know about anyone else, but after the board came back up- my box was full of old PMs that I'd deleted eons ago- and when I went to re-delete them- I almost did the same thing, but luckily I caught it in the nick of time. The other one is that when replying to a PM, there's no longer a copy of the PM you're replying to- unless you hit 'quote' and either do it that way, or delete the quoted text before sending. Also when sending PMs, a lot of error messages are coming up...and in some cases, text in the outbox is showing up as- I guess what the snizzster referred to as 'gobbledeegook,' or it'll show the same PM sent to the same person...numerous times. Avatars are also a problem...only jpegs and gifs are allowed now- but even at that, a lot of them won't work. Everyone that had one on V3- they seem to all be working on V4...but if you change it, just be aware the new one might not work. There are login problems where it keeps asking for an activation code even after you've reactivated (and even if you re-enter your code). I've reactivated our email account- so if anyone runs into trouble and can't get in...or if there's anyone out there who hasn't re-activated yet and runs into a problem you can send an email to: www.musicworldhelp.com Also, the thread/poll lock/unlock function is hit and miss as far as working- which is why I had a problem the other night. I tried it again the next day and it worked for me, I tried it again later on and it wasn't, just tried it now and it worked... I already mentioned the sticky/unsticky problem...DON'T unsticky anything until further notice!! There have also been numerous reports of old threads being messed up- threads out of place, posts within threads garbled...I haven't had time to check that out here yet so I don't know if we've got that problem too...I'll let you know Also there's a glitch in the 'show gender' thing...it's been randomly changing people's gender when they login and out. So snizzster...you just might wind up a girly-man yet... And it looks like that stupid birthday thing does only come up on days when there are birthdays...but everyone who's a member's birthday has been automatically entered. There is no way to disable it without disabling the whole info center...but somebody posted code that will disable it. ;D But there's so much friggin code on this board- I'm not sure exactly where it's supposed to be put- so I sent it to TM and hopefully he'll get that squared away... I think those are most of the major ones as far as posting...The really major nightmares are with coding and adminstrative functions and that doesn't really affect you guys...just me & TM.

LS, since I'm not sophisticated enough to understand what you said about deleting all of the intervening posts if I wish to reply, I'll just straight reply to you. ;D First of all, I don't have a set bed-time. I have some flexibility in married life. Second, I'm quickly coming to know the quirks of the new board format. Every time I log in, I'm uncertain as to whether I've successfully done so. The status box in the upper right hand corner is of no help - it constantly tells me that I have to log in, even after I've done so multiple times. I found a way to short circuit this, but why should I have to do? I acknowledge that I'm getting grumpy in my old age, but c'mon! Since I'm clearly not yet operating at the same level as some of you ;D , I haven't run into most of the most often mentioned bugs. That being said, I'm sure I'll run aground sooner rather than later.

LS, since I'm not sophisticated enough to understand what you said about deleting all of the intervening posts if I wish to reply, I'll just straight reply to you. ;D Hey- anybody remember how just 5 short years ago SAM was trying to teach me how to import smilies?? ;D I've come a long way baby... Ok Shooter- it's not really that much different than the way we've been doing it in the past when we want to just reply to a certain part of a post (you know, like the way me & TM did it above)- just more of a pain. Replying to a post once isn't a problem and shows up the same way as usual. But say if I make a post, you reply to it, and then I want to reply to your new post- that's a little different, because when I go into reply, my original post will be in the text along with your response to my original post. This is what that text will look like...I'm substituting a { for [ so what the actual text looks like shows up here: {quote author=drl1965 board=Info1 thread=1115097298 post=1116105312] {quote author=littlesister board=Info1 thread=1115097298 post=1115955969]

(Above is the text from MY post...below is DRL's REPLY to my post)

Right after that says 'quote author=littlesister etc.?? The latter starts the 'pick up' of the previous post and includes the text from that post down to the first '/quote'. That's the part that needs to be deleted to get rid of picking up previous quotes...in other words this part has to be deleted if you just wanted to reply to DRL's post without also picking up mine: {quote author=littlesister board=Info1 thread=1115097298 post=1115955969]

First of all, I don't have a set bed-time. I have some flexibility in married life. Uh-oh...looks like the honeymoon's over!! ;D Actually though Shooter...I was referring to the fact that ever since I've known you- going way back when to our nightly gabfests- midnight was always Shooter's 'night-night' time... ;D Yeah- there's been a lot of login problems. But I need more info on the one you're having...Where are you trying to login from?? The screen at the bottom of the forum, the button at the top underneath the MusicWorld logo or the one next to the MW logo?? After you do that, what does the status box say?? "Login" or "Hey Shooter you have xx messages"?? Does your SN show up in the info center?? If it's showing the 'message reminder' instead of 'login' and your SN is showing up- then what kind of problems are you having?? If you try to post are you getting bounced out?? And what are you doing to 'short circuit' it so if anybody else is having the same problem, they'll know what to do- and so I can also post that info to the support board so other admins can tell their members how to get around it until things get straightened out... if they ever get straightened out. Interestingly- they got as far server 22 as far as this update and then abruptly stopped in the middle of updating the remaining 26 servers and reverted them back to V3...And so far all of the servers that were updated have been periodically crashing- ours was down for several hours Monday.... Well the PM's also have that 'quote in quote' issue...and I just found another bug...the 'reset' button on the page for writing posts doesn't work...

I see there've been some changes during my absence! Some of the changes aren't bad. The profile page seems to be easier to work with, but they made it more complicated to get to. I too was trying to figure out how to get into it until I read though this thread. The way they set that up makes no sense. Most of the other things I've seen so far, I'm not so crazy about myself. LS, so you know, I tried logging in earlier this evening, but had trouble. I got my code and used the link to get in, but then it kept repeatedly asking for my DOB. I tried logging in here by entering the code manually, but the same thing happened using all 3 login spots on the forum, so I gave up. I came back and tried again a little while ago, and this time I was able to login.

I see there've been some changes during my absence! Yeah...you sure picked a heck of a time to get back online!! Agreed...but I can count the ones I like on less than one hand. From what I'm gathering- most of the problems are with the login at the bottom...However, someone suggested that the particular problem you're having sounds like a corrupted cookie issue and that if it continues, try dumping the cookies and see what happens...

Yeah...you sure picked a heck of a time to get back online!! I've never been known for great timing. That thought never occurred to me. I'm not sure if that was the problem, but I read this before I logged in and dumped them before I tried. I had no problem this time, so that might have been it. You are right though, deleting unwanted text so that you can reply only to the parts of a post you want to is a royal pain in the behind.
