That's a disturbing mindset, LS, but I suppose it's in line with the thinking of many of the Stepford Wifes who populate my neighborhood. I find them an utter disgrace to the female gender. My hatred for the DuHbya and everything he stands for would probably make Roland's and the snizzster's hair stand on end ;D (speaking of which...I know snizz's been out on the road again- but come on Ro-land- where ya hidin'?? Let's go guy- get yer butt back here!!). The mere sight or mention of his name sets my jaw on edge, my eyes narrow, nostrils flare and steam shoots out of my ears...and that's on a good day. But I'll hand it to ya Shooter...you do take the term 'opposites attract' to a whole new level.

Well, yeah, but Reagan was 110 when he was elected... And shoot, they're still talking about McCain in 2008, and he's in his late 70's now. And Cheney's a walking corpse...So yeah- you've got a point. ;D Even more sadly...here we are in 2004 and we've still got bigots burning crosses!! But nope- I sincerely don't believe it'll happen in my lifetime either (especially not when I'm still fightin' for something as simple as- equal pay )...though maybe we might live to finally see a female VP. But yep I agree about Hil...and maybe it's bein' selfish - but that's why we'd like to keep her right were she is...working her butt off for us in the Senate. I'm an independent but through the values and moral beliefs instilled in me- I am a <PROUD> liberal and I couldn't agree with you more on that one...I recoiled in horror when I started hearing them considering trying to go after the religious right. NO WAY!! Pandering and compromising what you stand for is NOT the way to go. The Democrats overall do represent more of what I believe in...where to me the GOP represents a movie that chilled me to the bone when I was a kid..."Rollerball"...and the 'new' front & center neo-con wing of the GOP is "1984" come to life and is the living, breathing Big Brother. Very good article...and I mostly agree. We've got that big red blotch in the middle of this state too- and it's been nothing but a big fat freeloadin' albatross around our necks for years that needs to be cut loose. Goes along with this statement political obeserver David Gergen made in an interview with him: "Bruce Reed wrote a very interesting piece in the Washington Post pointing out something I did not know. It suggests that we're entering a new period of politics. Of the twenty-eight states with the lowest per-capita income, Bush carried twenty-six. In the past, we would all have assumed that low-income states would mostly go Democratic. The fact that their income status does not seem to be tied to how they vote is a major advance for Republicans -- and something Democrats have to think a lot about. It's conceivable that Republicans, in continuing to emphasize small government, may have left themselves in a position where Bush was not held as accountable for the loss of jobs, say, in Ohio as he would have been twenty years ago. That, to me, is a big change.
There is also an irony in this. Kerry won all the states with the highest per-capita income. States such as New York, with high per-capita incomes, are the ones that send more tax money to Washington and get less back than the rest of the country. So the Democrats win in blue states that are essentially for bigger government but that get less back from government, while Republicans win in red states that stand for smaller government and are getting more money from the government than they send in."

I'm sure I'd be more upset if I weren't quite so heavily sedated

I think that's pretty much on target and seems to be the major consensus going around. Just take a look at the budget that they just passed. There was an article in our paper the other day about how a family in one of these red areas gets an average tax return of $3000, while a family here in metro NY with the same income only gets $1000 back. Stands to reason the red places don't want their apple cart upset. I've been saying it for years, it's time we stood up and fought to get our fair share of the apples. The first step is deep sixing the outdated electoral college that only serves to promote what it was originally intended to protect. Some ideas work and some wind up not working. In spite of intentions, it happens. But the ones that wind up not working have to be changed in the name of social justice.

I find them an utter disgrace to the female gender. My wife absolutely despises these types. How derivative can you be? I mean, these women drive the same car (either a BMV X5 or a Land Rover/Range Rover). They carry the same handbag (Louis Vuitton or Gucci). They shop at the same stores (Nieman Marcus a/k/a Needless Mark-Up or Saks). They have the same housing plans - tear down a $1,000,000 house to erect a $3,000,000 house. Ah yes, nothing like a return on your husband's investment. ;D Foaming at the mouth and shooting fire from your nostrils is quite unbecoming of you, LS. Where's the sweet, innocent, mild-tempered girl I once knew. ;D As for the "opposites attract" comment, what can I say, LS? I have many charms...none of them politically-based. ;D
